My story with Type 1 Diabetes began at age 11, when my older brother Bill was diagnosed. He was 12 at the time, and I was really too young to realize what was going on, but knew he had to take shots, check his blood sugar, and count carbs. Oh, and watch his sugar intake.
We grew up and our family adjusted to life with T1D, and 8 years after Bill was diagnosed, my younger brother Luke was diagnosed with Type 1, he was 12.
Being around it most of my life and seeing the advancements in research and technology was promising....
However there has always been a thought in the back of my mind, why them and not me, or now that I am starting my family, what if...
Or what if one of their children are diagnosed, and all the others out there getting diagnosed every day, what can we do to make a difference...
So, I started by starting a Walk in Dubuque to support JDRF, not only a way to raise money, but an event to bring the families together and community to show support for one another...
Then I joined the Eastern Iowa board to learn more about what I could do to help make an impact. I was introduced to the Ride To Cure and that was my next thing...
Over the years, I've held fundraisers, both raising money and raising awareness, in total we've raised over $50,000...
We've also worked with numerous families and walk teams with their team shirts, doing them at cost to enable them to maximize the amount of funds raised for their walk team.
At Envision, we are passionate about the charities we work with and the opportunity to make an impact with a tshirt. We believe the tshirt is more than just a tshirt, but a rally cry and a cap for those super heroes wearing the tshirt. It is a symbol of community and when worn in a group, shows the collective power of supporting a cause. Many against 1.
Envision started in my parents basement 13 years ago and we just recently moved into a 35,000 sq. ft. production facility. We have a full service screen printing, embroidery, laser etching, and graphic design department. We have customers in all 50 States and work with several local and national Non-Profits.
We look forward to the opportunity to work with JDRF on a National level.
